2. The Accidentals (my a capella group) met via Zoom weekly to stay connected during quarantine.

3. We had to record ourselves singing for a remote Carleton Choir project which resulted in a lot of technical mishaps, including this silly photo.

4. Family Yahtzee! a night with my sisters in Alaska. Mom and Dad asked too many questions and yelled a lot.

5. Our cat Dookie was my constant support/annoyance during online classes.

6. The first few weeks of quarantine were FULL of yummy food... until we lost energy and stopped cooking fun things. These veggies enchiladas made everyone happy, even my meat-loving dad.

7. When we are on campus, a group of friends and I have 'tea time' and we decided to keep it going over video chat during our term away.

8. On my 21st birthday/last day of classes, my housemate and I took a trip to my favorite childhood lake and paddled around. We chased swarms of minnows and ran away when their guardians started nipping at our toes.

We'd been sitting behind Evans looking out at Bell Field and talking. As we were about to walk up the steps behind Evans, we saw, at the top of the steps, my freshman year roommate and her family, who had returned to campus to pick up her belongings. It was such a serendipitous moment, and also highlighted everything we had lost. A goodbye with my roommate is one of the many goodbyes I did not have a chance to say before leaving at the end of winter. We took a socially-distanced picture, waved by one more time, and continued our respective strolls around the deserted, locked, familiar-yet-alien-feeling campus".

                <text>Photo Outline:
1. I included this tree because it represents a sense of displacement that allowed me to not miss something for the first time. My parents moved into this house my freshman year at Carleton and I never realized this tree on our porch was a cherry blossom because I’d never been home when it bloomed before.

2. As I said, my parents moved into their house when I left for college so it’s never really been my home and it’s only now that I’m here and will be here for the foreseeable future that I’ve really designed my space as something that is mine with all my things and my personality in the aesthetic. I’ve spent a lot of my time organizing things like this, working with my hands has been very soothing when I’m anxious.

3. These photos are of my neighborhood, and again it’s about the fact that I don’t know the place where I am supposed to be at home. Apparently the egg tree is an annual tradition, and the signs were put up by a family with three kids and a bichon frise. Feeling like I am an outsider in this space is a huge part of the displacement feeling in my COVID-19 experience.

<text>"I came home on the 17th of March, spent one night in my childhood home, and I immediately drove to Eastern Washington, where I've been staying at my parents cabin. The cabin is on a sixteen acre plot, so it's safe to say that I did not see a lot of people outside my family for a while. I am undoubtedly incredibly lucky to live in the area. I can run on the trail systems in my neighborhood every day, and I have never had to worry about seeing other people. It feels super weird to live in that house for the spring, but my life would not be that different if I randomly decided to take all of my classes (without quarantine). My parents spend about three days a week at the cabin, and my brother lived with me for the first half of the term, but I spent the last two work weeks living alone. It's beautiful, but it's also very quiet."

<text>"Looking at my camera roll, the lack of pictures, particularly pictures of people, is an accurate depiction of what is being missed during the pandemic. I live a few miles outside of the Black Hills National Forest so hiking has been a reprieve from being in my house constantly. I don't see many people outside of my immediate family and my dog and I spend a lot of time hanging out in my backyard (by myself) when the weather is nice enough. It's hard to believe that we have been away from Carleton so long, but looking at my recent photos, I have very little evidence of other humans, which makes it clear just how long it has been. My pictures are exclusively of my dog and of the landscape from hikes I have gone on. It feels very strange to be separated from the community of people that I have been so connected to for almost three years".
